Farewell Col Wale

The Committee & Members of the Port Melbourne Baseball Club are saddened by the news of the passing of Life Member Colin "Cole" Wale, Cole was one of the best ever to put on a Port Melbourne Baseball uniform as acknowledged with him being selected at 2nd Base in the Port Melbourne Baseball Club Team of the Century, he also represented Victoria in the Claxton Shield, cole also Coached thr Club.

A True Gentleman of the Club & Port Melbourne Community.

We pass on our deepest sympathies to Heather Wale & Family on the passing of their beloved Colin.

The Port Melbourne Baseball Club farewells Club Legend John Ramsay who lost his battle with cancer,

Rags as he was fondly known to all played 770 senior games at the club, won 4 MVP, played in numerous premierships, coached the club, was selected in the Team of the Century, awarded Life Membership & inducted into the Club's Hall of Fame,

Rags you were a fearsome competitor on the field and a most lovelable bloke off the field, we as a club are indebted to you for your amazing conrtibution to our club over 50+ years,

Deepest condolences to Lilian, Bruce, Brendan & Alesha

Port Melbourne 15 beat Bonbeach 5
Mercy Rule after 7 innings

The Port Melbourne Mariners Men's First Nine started 2014 with a bang, smashing the Bonbeach Bluejays 15-5 at Longstaff Field on Sunday afternoon,

Import Mike Koons did most of the damage with the bat picking up 3 hits including 2 massive doubles one of which bounced off the centre field fence, he also managed to drive in 5 RBI's, Nick Coy also had a good day with the bat picking up 2 hits & driving in 3 RBI's, as did head coach Kile Rogers picking up 2 hits & driving in the run to put the Mariners up by 10 runs,

Lindsay Webb & Geoff Holland shared the pitching duties doing there job to restrict Bonbeach to only 5 runs & Kile Rogers was solid all day behind the dish, the Mariner defence was excellent all day playing errorless baseball in the field.

Port Melbourne 4 lost to Bonbeach 5

The Second Nine battled hard all game but fell one run short after leaving a runner stranded on 3rd base in the last inning,

Rookie Pitcher Matthew Campbell & veteran Carl King shared the pitching duties doing a good job well supported by a solid defence,

Club Legend Victor Parkinson came out of retirement and picked up 2 hits, Carl KIng was great with the bat collecting 3 hits including a ground ball up the 3rd base line that he legged out to beat the throw, Ross O'Gorman 2 hits smashed to double & a triple in the last inning that drove in 2 runs and reduced the deficit to one run, but unfortunately his team mates were unable to drive him across the plate, the wins may not be happening for this team, but they are showing great improvement, hopefully a win is just around the corner.

MARINERS BEAT LIONS IN TIGHT ONE

Sunday November 24th

Port Melbourne's First Nine won a tight one defeating Fitzroy 2-1 at Merri Park on Sunday afternoon,
Geoff Holland was sensational on the hill for Port throwing a 6 inning gem allowing 1 run on a few scattered hits to get the Win,

Mike Koons was great in relief shutting out the Lions over the last 3 innings to earn the Saves.

Catcher Staci Rogers had a fantastic game throwing out 4 base runners from 4 attempts as well as calling & catching a great game behind the dish.
The Mariners defence was solid as a rock playing errorless baseball.
Nobody stood out with the bat, Kile Rogers picked up a hit making it 6 hits for him in 8 days, six other Mariners picked up a hit apiece, Staci Rogers 1 (with a HPB), Ben Merritt 1, Mike Koons 1, Geoff Holland 1 (with 2 BBs), Nick Coy 1, Lindsay Webb 1.

MARINERS GET FIRST WIN

 The First Nine picked up their first win for 2013/14 with an 8-4 win over St Kilda at Home,

Jordan Osbourne picked up the win with an impressive performance on the hill throwing 6 strong innings allowing only 1 run on a scattering of hits, Geoff Holland, Kile Rogers & first gamer Mike Koons did well in relief to preserve the lead and gain the victory,

The Mariners got the jump on the Saints early scoring 4 runs in the first dig on the back of excellent hitting & kept tacking on runs throughout the game, great job boys, enjoy the win.
